AI Today: A White House Accord, OpenAI’s Always-On Agents, and Anthropic’s IPO Filing
Washington, OpenAI and Anthropic all made news on Tuesday, on rules, products and money.
Trump and tech leaders sign a “morally binding” AI accord
President Trump hosted top AI executives for a lunch in the White House East Room on Tuesday. Attendees included Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Jensen Huang, Anthropic’s Dario Amodei and OpenAI’s Greg Brockman. Afterward, Trump said he and the executives had signed an AI agreement and described it as “morally binding,” meaning it has moral weight but no legal force.
Trump said he is seeing a lot of self-policing by the industry and that the administration is considering a 10-person committee to oversee it. He also said the government would not halt AI development. Amodei, speaking outside the White House, said rules to address AI risks are still under discussion and that the goal is to win the AI race safely. Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer criticized the president for not doing more to rein in AI.
OpenAI’s DevDay: always-on “Dots” agents and GPT-6.1 Sol
At its annual developer conference on September 29, OpenAI unveiled more than 20 products and features. The headline is Dots, always-on agents that work on a user’s behalf in the cloud. They are available to Pro and Business Premium subscribers, with a beta for Enterprise, Edu and Healthcare customers that admins must turn on.
OpenAI also released GPT-6.1 Sol, which it says delivers near-flagship performance at about one-fifth of the price of its top model, GPT-6 Astra. API pricing is $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. Other announcements included a shared ChatGPT workspace called Spaces, cloud-based Codex and new agent APIs. The launch came a day after OpenAI said it was shelving GPT-6.1 Astra over safety standards.
Anthropic’s IPO filing reveals a $518 billion buildout
According to reporting that cites the company’s confidential IPO prospectus, Anthropic plans to spend at least $518 billion over a decade on AI infrastructure, mostly locked in through six partners, including Google, Amazon, Microsoft and Broadcom. The reports say business revenue more than doubled in the period, and that Anthropic added more consumer revenue in the third quarter than in all of 2025. Separately, OpenAI’s Sam Altman has said his company will delay its own IPO until it addresses safety concerns.
